About our founder
Ally Institute is initiated by Prof. Dr. Elke Van Hoof, expert in the field of stress and burnout.
Who is Elke Van Hoof?
Prof. Dr. Elke Van Hoof is a researcher, expert, author, manager and public speaker. Embodying a unique combination of business expertise, psychology and academic research, Elke is a pioneer as she not only focuses on what needs to be done, but also on how this should be done. In order to change the predominant paradigm on stress and help more people flourish in changing contexts, she founded Ally Institute in 2019.
Elke Van Hoof’s view on stress has changed a great deal over time. She once believed the conventional idea that it was a purely negative phenomenon. In her mid-thirties, she realised she was suffering from toxic stress which was causing symptoms of exhaustion, mental fatigue and took a physical toll on her body. Once she started to conduct in depth research, she discovered the positive effects of stress, learned how we can optimally deal with it and even use it to our advantage. From that point forward, she developed a love for stress and wants to share her knowledge with the world.
Elke is known for her work on stress, burnout, trauma, sensory processing sensitivity and work resumption. For more than 15 years, Elke has been conducting research on how people react when being confronted with challenges such as a chronic disorder – aiming to gain insight into the factors contributing negatively or positively to dealing with these challenges.
Elke teaches health and medical psychology as well as clinical psychological interventions at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium.
Elke Van Hoof is a member of the Belgian Commission of Psychologists and participates as an expert within the Belgian Superior Health Council. She also advises the Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.
In addition to her academic career, Elke founded the Center for Resilience – the Belgian expertise center for stress, burnout and resilience.
Elke has published many papers in both national and international (scientific) journals. She is also the author of the following books:
